Denmark Is Islands, and the Bridges Are Charged

A Denmark DMC is your operating partner on the ground — contracting Danish suppliers at net rates, costing the bridge crossings a route depends on, and placing a coordinator beside your group from arrival to departure, under your brand.

Copenhagen sits on Zealand. The rest of the country is Funen, Jutland and several hundred smaller islands, and moving between them means crossing the Great Belt or the Little Belt. Those bridges carry a toll, and for a touring coach it is a real line rather than loose change. A Denmark itinerary quoted without them is a Denmark itinerary quoted short.

The second thing to get right is the calendar. Tivoli, the attraction almost every Copenhagen brief asks for, is shut for a good part of the year, and so is Legoland. As a wider Europe DMC we run Denmark alongside Sweden, Germany or the rest of the Nordics on one contract.

Copenhagen, Funen and Jutland

Tolled bridges between the islands, a headline attraction with a split season, a castle across the sound and Nordic-scale conference capacity are four separate problems. We hold all four, and cross into Sweden or Germany without a second agreement.

12+Years On the Ground

Tivoli Is Shut More Than It Is Open

Tivoli opens for a summer season from around April to late September, then again for Halloween and for Christmas, and closes in between. A November group promised the gardens will find the gates shut, and a January one will too. Legoland at Billund runs a similar seasonal pattern. Beyond the calendar, the geography costs money: the Great Belt crossing between Zealand and Funen runs about 18 km and carries a toll that scales with vehicle size, and Copenhagen to Aarhus is roughly 300 km with that bridge in the middle. We show those crossings as their own line rather than folding them into a transport rate that looks competitive until the invoice arrives.

The Danish Ground Operation

Group Tours & Series

Copenhagen and cross-island circuits with bridge tolls costed, attraction seasons checked and restaurant blocks held per departure. See our full B2B ground services.

Castles & Royal Denmark

Kronborg at Helsingør, Frederiksborg and Rosenborg, with the crown jewels and timed entries where the site requires them.

MICE & Congress

Copenhagen carries strong conference capacity and a compact centre that keeps delegate movement short. See our European MICE capability.

New Nordic Dining

Tasting menus, smørrebrød lunches and market halls — the food story is one of the strongest reasons groups choose Copenhagen.

Family & Legoland

Billund programmes inside the Legoland operating season, with Odense and the Hans Christian Andersen sites nearby.

White-Label & Net Rates

Contracting, allotments and net rates issued under your brand, with reporting your finance team can reconcile.

Six Denmarks Across the Belts

The coloured houses along the Nyhavn canal in Copenhagen

Copenhagen

Nyhavn, Amalienborg and the Little Mermaid, with the airport 8 km out. Compact enough that most of a city day is walked rather than driven.

The illuminated entrance to Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen

Tivoli Gardens

Open for a summer season from around April to late September, then for Halloween and Christmas, and closed in the gaps. The dates decide the itinerary, not the other way round.

Kronborg Castle at Helsingor beside the sound

Helsingør & North Zealand

Kronborg, the castle of Hamlet, and Frederiksborg inland. A short crossing from here reaches Sweden in about 20 minutes.

A thatched cottage on the island of Funen

Odense & Funen

Hans Christian Andersen's city, reached across the Great Belt bridge of about 18 km. The natural halfway stop between Copenhagen and Jutland.

Modern waterfront architecture along the canal at Aarhus O

Aarhus & Jutland

The second city, about 300 km from Copenhagen with a bridge in the middle. ARoS, the old town museum and the road north to Skagen.

A large brick sculpture in the gardens at Legoland Billund

Billund & Legoland

Its own airport and a seasonal park, strongest for family groups. Like Tivoli it does not run all year, so the dates come before the booking.

Putting a Danish File Together

1

Brief & Season Check

Send dates, group size and the must-sees. We reply within one business day and say immediately what will be closed.

2

Route Costed Honestly

Bridge tolls, ferry legs and city taxes are priced as their own lines so the quote you sell is the quote you pay.

3

Operate on the Ground

Contracts, allotments, licensed guides and a coordinator running the programme in real time, under your brand.

4

Report & Reconcile

Post-programme reporting and budget reconciliation, with every crossing itemised.

Why Danish Budgets Hold

Crossings Priced Up Front

Bridge tolls quoted as their own line, so no invoice arrives carrying a charge nobody mentioned.

Seasons Checked First

Tivoli, Legoland and the castles confirmed against your dates before an itinerary is written around them.

White-Label Delivery

Brand-safe execution under your name, with transparent net rates and clean reporting.

One Europe DMC

Continue a Danish leg into Sweden, Norway or Germany on the same contract.

"Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better for our business partners' ultimate satisfaction."

Denmark: Questions the Trade Sends Us

What is a Denmark DMC?
A Denmark DMC is a trade-only partner that operates your programme on the ground — designing the itinerary, contracting Danish hotels, coaches, guides and venues at net rates, costing the island crossings a route depends on, and coordinating the group on site. HCG does all of it under your brand, as your single point of contact.
Is Tivoli open when we travel?
It depends entirely on the month. Tivoli runs a summer season from around April to late September, then reopens for Halloween and again for Christmas, and is closed between those blocks. Published dates shift a little each year, so we check them against your dates before writing the itinerary rather than after.
How much do the bridges add to a quote?
Enough to matter. The Great Belt crossing between Zealand and Funen is around 18 km and its toll scales with vehicle size, so a full-size coach pays considerably more than a car. Add the Öresund if the route crosses to Sweden. We show both as their own lines, because a transport rate that hides them looks cheaper and is not.
Does Denmark use the euro?
No. Denmark keeps the Danish krone, and although its rate against the euro is tightly managed, payment is in kroner and cards are the norm almost everywhere. On a Nordic tour that means a third currency alongside the Swedish and Norwegian ones, which we handle in the costing rather than passing to your client.
Can we reach Sweden from Copenhagen easily?
Very easily. The Öresund Bridge puts Malmö around 40 minutes away by train, and the short ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg takes about 20 minutes. Identity checks are sometimes reinstated at the crossing, so we ask groups to carry passports even where the border is normally open.
Is Copenhagen walkable for a group?
Unusually so. The centre is compact, the sights cluster, and for many congresses we place the hotel block inside walking distance of the venue and remove the shuttle line altogether. The one thing to brief clients on is the cycle lanes, which are busy and have priority.
What is the best base for a Jutland tour?
Aarhus for culture and the north, Billund if the group is family-focused and the park is the reason for the trip. Copenhagen to Aarhus is roughly 300 km with the Great Belt crossing in the middle, so we normally build Jutland as its own leg rather than a long day trip.
When is the best time to travel?
May to September for long daylight, open attractions and outdoor dining. Late November and December for the Christmas markets and Tivoli's winter season, which is genuinely one of the best in Europe. January to March is quiet and inexpensive but several headline attractions are closed, so the itinerary has to be built differently.
