The Dutch Season Is Eight Weeks Long

A Netherlands DMC is your operating partner on the ground — contracting Dutch suppliers at net rates, holding Keukenhof and museum capacity inside a very short season, and placing a coordinator beside your group from arrival to departure, under your brand.

Almost every Netherlands enquiry we receive is really an enquiry about eight weeks. Keukenhof opens from around late March to mid May and closes for the rest of the year, the bulb fields colour for a few weeks inside that, and the whole country's inbound demand concentrates on the same window. A group asking in January for late April is late, not early.

Amsterdam adds its own constraints. Coach access to the centre is restricted with very little parking, guided groups are capped in size in parts of the old centre, and the city levies one of Europe's highest tourist taxes as a percentage of the room rate. None of it is difficult once it is planned. As a wider Europe DMC we extend a Dutch leg into Germany, France or Belgium on one contract.

Amsterdam, the Bulb Fields and the Randstad

A capped spring attraction, timed museum entries, canal boats with fixed capacities and restricted city coach access are four separate problems. We hold all four, and carry a Dutch programme into Germany or Belgium without a second agreement.

Where the Coach Cannot Go in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a small city that has decided it has enough visitors, and it operates accordingly. Coach access to the canal ring is restricted, city-centre coach parking is scarce and expensive, and guided groups in parts of the old centre are limited in size, so a party of 40 becomes two guided groups rather than one. Museums work on timed entry and the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh sell through for spring weekends. And the bicycle is the real hazard: a group stepping off a coach onto a cycle lane is the single most common incident on a Dutch file, which is why our transfers use marked set-down points and the guide steps off first.

Six Corners of a Small Country

Amsterdam & the Canals

Amsterdam & the Canals

Restricted coach access to the canal ring, capped guided-group sizes in the old centre, timed museums and a tourist tax charged as a share of the room rate.

Keukenhof & the Bulb Fields

Keukenhof & the Bulb Fields

Open only from around late March to mid May, roughly 8 weeks in the year. Weekend arrival slots and coach parking go first, so dates are committed months ahead.

Rotterdam & The Hague

Rotterdam & The Hague

Modern architecture, the Markthal and Europe's largest port, with easier coach access than Amsterdam — 80 km away and often a smarter base in tulip season.

Zaanse Schans & the Windmills

Zaanse Schans & the Windmills

Working windmills, clog and cheese demonstrations, 20 km north of Amsterdam. Coach parking is charged and limited, so arrival timing is booked rather than assumed.

Utrecht & the Green Heart

Utrecht & the Green Heart

Split-level canal wharves and the Dom tower, an easy 45 minute run from Amsterdam and a calmer alternative when the capital is full.

Maastricht & the South

Maastricht & the South

The Limburg hills and a genuinely different Dutch character, and the natural bridge into Belgium or Germany on a multi-country itinerary.

Building a Dutch Itinerary

1

Brief & Season Check

Send dates and group size. We reply within one business day and say straight away whether the dates sit inside or outside the tulip window.

2

Capacity Before Costing

Keukenhof slots, canal boats and museum entries are secured first, because in spring they are the constraint, not the hotel.

3

Operate on the Ground

Contracts, allotments, licensed guides and a coordinator running the programme in real time, under your brand.

4

Report & Reconcile

Post-programme reporting and budget reconciliation, with the Amsterdam tourist tax itemised rather than absorbed.

Why Dutch Files Do Not Overrun

Spring Booked Early

Keukenhof and its coach parking held well ahead of the season, so a spring group is not left outside the gate.

Groups Split Correctly

Guided parties sized to the city's own limits, so a walking tour is not stopped halfway through the old centre.

White-Label Delivery

Brand-safe execution under your name, with transparent net rates and clean reporting.

One Europe DMC

Continue a Dutch leg into Germany, Belgium or France on the same contract.

"Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better for our business partners' ultimate satisfaction."

Netherlands: What the Trade Asks

What is a Netherlands DMC?
A Netherlands DMC is a trade-only partner that operates your programme on the ground — designing the itinerary, contracting Dutch hotels, coaches, licensed guides and venues at net rates, holding seasonal and timed capacity, and coordinating the group on site. HCG does all of it under your brand, as your single point of contact.
When exactly is Keukenhof open?
Roughly from late March to mid May, about eight weeks, and closed the rest of the year. Exact dates are published annually. The peak bloom sits inside that and shifts with the weather, so a client who wants the photographs should travel in the middle weeks rather than at either edge.
How early do we need to book for tulip season?
Months ahead, and for a weekend group as early as you can commit. It is not the hotels that run out first — it is Keukenhof arrival slots and the coach parking that goes with them. An enquiry made in January for late April is usually working with what is left rather than what is best.
Why can't the coach drop us at the hotel in central Amsterdam?
Coach access to the canal ring is restricted and parking is very limited, so vehicles use designated set-down points and move on. We build the short walk into the timing and choose the drop-off with luggage and cycle lanes in mind, which matters more with an older group than the map suggests.
Is there really a limit on guided group size?
Yes, in parts of the old centre the city caps how many people one guide may lead. In practice a large party is split into two or three guided groups with staggered starts. We plan for it in the quote rather than discovering it when a guide is stopped in the street.
How much is the Amsterdam tourist tax?
It is charged as a percentage of the room rate rather than a flat nightly sum, which makes it one of the highest in Europe on a good hotel. Because it scales with the rate, we show it as its own line — a four-star upgrade costs more than the rate difference alone suggests.
Is the Netherlands worth visiting outside spring?
Yes, and it is considerably easier to operate. Museums, canals, Delft, The Hague and Rotterdam are year-round products, hotel rates are lower and the cities are less pressured. We would rather sell a strong September programme than a compromised April one.
Can you combine the Netherlands with Belgium or Germany?
Easily. The country is small — Amsterdam to Rotterdam is about 80 km — and the borders are close, so Bruges, Brussels or the Rhine sit within a comfortable drive. We contract the whole route under one agreement rather than handing you to a second operator at the frontier.
